Ironworkers Local 155 offers a 4-year apprenticeship with the opportunity to advance to journeyman status and prepares workers for a career that offers great wages and benefits. And while many in college sink into debt preparing for a career, Ironworker apprentices earn while they learn.

The requirements for the apprenticeship program include:

  • Minimum age of 18
  • High school diploma or GED certificate
  • Good physical condition, agility and sense of balance
  • Drug and alcohol free

Apprentices get 200 hours of instruction every year, including college-level classes. Starting wages for ironworker apprentices is $21.50 an hour plus benefits.  As an apprentice accumulates an established number of on-the-job hours plus related and supplemental instruction hours, wages are increased at regular intervals.

Ironworking has many sectors such as structural steel, architectural steel, rigging, welding and reinforcing steel. Structural steel covers structural-steel erection, plumb up and aligning structural steel, installing metal decking, erecting bridges and wind turbines. Architectural steel covers constructing curtain walls, skylights, storefronts and entranceways. Rigging covers loading/unloading, moving and setting machinery and structural steel. Welding and burning are tools of the trade and necessary in all sectors. Reinforcing steel covers fabrication and installation of rebar, installation and stressing of post tensioning cables.

Applications will be accepted Monday through Friday (except holidays) between the hours of 9:00am and 11:00am at the Ironworkers Apprenticeship Training Center:
